Are Turtles Reptiles?

Reptiles are a class of animals that are characterized by having dry, scaly skin and an ectothermic, or “cold-blooded” metabolism. This means that they cannot generate their own body heat and must rely on external sources, such as the sun, to regulate their body temperature. Turtles are a type of reptile that is distinguished by its hard, protective shell. This shell is made up of two parts: the upper carapace and the lower plastron. The carapace and plastron are connected by a bridge, and together they encase and protect the turtle’s body. Turtles are found in a variety of habitats all over the world, from deserts to rain forests. Some turtles, like the box turtle, even spend time on land and in water.
